this film stings!!

stings?
i meant to say it SUCKS!!!

what appeared to be a simple exciting heartwarmer of a story about the National Spelling Bee
turns out to be a jumbled mess of lots of hooey about faith and metaphysical crapola.

and the peculiar thing in the movie is that the contestant's family members choose this crucial moment
in the little girl's life to :

1.convert to another religion,
2.conveniently lose their minds,
3.suddenly have the need to teach the daughter ancient Hebrew mystical texts
just when she's in the middle of studying her English words.

susmaria! exasperating movie.

Richard Gere should never make a movie with Julie Delpy.
so far, the movies he makes with European actresses with similar 1st names
have been total busts:
First Knight with Julia Ormond,
and now this crapfest with Juliette Binoche.

also, the fact that the key word the child has to spell is something as simple as ORIGAMI
tells you that the producers/directors/screenwriter/author have no respect the Spelling Bee at all, or for the contestants who train like athletes to win this competition.

i'm spelling it out:

D O N ' T

B U Y

T H I S

D V D.

if you want a really fine movie on the real National Spelling Bee, buy this excellent documentary: SPELLBOUND

or if you'd rather watch entertaining metaphysical mumbo jumbo,
watch Marlee Matlin in:
WHAT THE BLEEP DO WE KNOW!?
