after letting the DVD gather dust for more than two months, thinking it was a kiddie movie more along the lines of Lemony Snicket, i finally watched The Chronicles of Narnia: the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe. well, as Paul McCartney would say, maybe i'm amazed!!!! i found it much better than any of the Harry Potter movies, (except for the 3rd, maybe) and in a lot of stretches, it recalled a lot of Lord of the Rings' mythology, and movies as well. (JRR Tolkien & CS Lewis were good friends, mahilig sa initials, di ba?). and the battle scenes? very Braveheart!!! (my only beef here is that some sequences were too obviously CGI a la StarWars eps. 1-3) very very highly recommended. it's not just a kiddie movie. (and watch out for an excellent surprise appearance by a certain bearded gentleman, and no, it's not Dumbledore!) p.s. large chunks of the book/movie are supposed to be Biblical allegory, but don't let that throw you off. no Hard Sell here. but do watch out for the Abraham/Isaac and Aslan/Jesus sacrifice scene. now you can trace the six degrees of separation between Lord of the Rings, Braveheart, The Passion of the Christ, and Narnia. | whoa. cant believe you only saw this now! |
 | spanx wrote on Jul 1, '06 the DVD was included in a bunch of ripped porn DVDs by my pirate uncle in Germany. i thought it was a joke. thank God for boring Saturday mornings! |
